Will I have to pay fees?

If you are studying on a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you are entitled to have your tuition fees waived:

  • Job Seeker's Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Housing Benefit
  • Means-related Council Tax Rebate
  • Working Tax Credit (WTC)*
  • Pensions Guarantee Credit

You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit and you wish to claim concessionary rates please contact Customer Services who will be pleased to advise you on your entitlement. In addition, if you receive other allowances you may also be eligible to enrol at concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement.

Course Description
The level 3 technical certificate provides learners with an in-depth knowledge of core subject areas in health and social care to support progression into Higher Education, the workplace or further learning in related subject areas. Learners will be required to attend placement in a real work environment to support their learning. The minimum required number of placement hours is 75 hours which is distributed across the academic year. Our placement coordinator will support in identifying an appropriate setting.

Assessment Methods
The Technical Certificate is assessed primarily through coursework with one externally assessed assignment which is completed independently in exam conditions.

Duration
This course will run across a full academic year. Learners will be required to attend college for 2 full days each week.

Entry Requirements
This course is for learners aged 19+. Learners will be expected to hold a GCSE or equivalent level 2 qualification in English at grade 4/C or higher to support the required academic writing on the course.

Course Fees
If you do not already have a level 3 qualification or higher, this course can be funded through the National Skills Fund meaning you will have nothing to pay. If you already have a level 3 qualification or higher, but you earn below the National Living Wage annually (£18,525 from April 2022) or are unemployed, you can also access this qualifications for free. If you are not eligible for this offer, Advanced Learner Loans are available to help you cover the costs of learning, which you pay back when you are earning over a certain amount. Progression Options
Upon achievement of this qualification, learners will be able to progress to the Technical Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, from which students will be able to access Higher Education and progress into a wide range of job roles within the health and social care sector. The Technical Certificate does not provide occupational competence or a licence to practise but learners could also progress directly to a wide range of supervised job roles within the health and social care sector. This could include: Care Support Workers in adult residential settings. Healthcare Assistants in Community, Primary Care and Acute Health Environments, Care Support Workers in Domiciliary Services, Supported Living or Day Services. Community-Based Support Workers.
